Tell us a bit about what you do.
I have always had a desire to create. I started sewing when I was younger, making clothes for my dolls and eventually for myself. I haven’t found an aisle at Michael’s that I didn’t love. From knitting and repurposing furniture to scrapbooking and jewelry making - I’ve done it all but I’ve spent the past couple of years focused on making things with different textiles - wall weaves, macrame plant hangers, knitted and crochet projects. Creating things makes me happy so my favourite part is how relaxed I am while I am crafting.
What do you do to keep yourself motivated and interested in your work?
I like to switch up what I’m working on and keep trying new things. Right now I’m obsessively knitting blankets but I’ll need a break from that soon so I have plans to build shelves for my house. I like to try new things all the time and go back to my favourite projects - knitting and weaves - in between. I never want crafting to feel like actual work, even when it is - I want it to always be 100% enjoyable and stress free.
What is the best advice that you have ever been given?
Never be afraid to try something new. I spent months searching Instagram and Pinterest for beautiful wall weaves and I thought I would never be able to make something as beautiful as the ones I had seen but I still wanted to try and I’m glad I did because I found my own style.
What is your favourite thing you have created?
I really love the big wall weave I made for my living room. This was one of my first weaves and I am still really in love with how it turned out!
Have other people supported or inspired you?
The creative community in Sudbury is really amazing and through teaching workshops at the Makerspace, writing articles for Our Crater and participating in some local craft shows, I’ve been able to meet some really great people who definitely inspire me to keep creating! My grandma taught me how to sew when I was really young and from there my need to create just continued to grow so she was definitely my biggest inspiration to get crafty and still my biggest supporter.
