What is the Handmade Festival Market?
The Handmade Festival Market is a highly curated market featuring a variety of highly quality handmade goods focused on artists and makers from Northern Ontario. 

When does the market take place?
The market will take place July 5-8th as part of Northern Lights Festival Boreal in Bell Park, in lovely Sudbury Ontario.  

When do I set up?
If you are bringing your own tent, set-up takes place on Friday before 3 pm. (Note: all vehicles must be off premises before 3 pm).

If you are having a table under our large market tent, we ask that you set up on Saturday or Sunday morning and aim to have your table ready by 10:30 am before the festival opens at 11 am. The market tent will be running from 11-6pm on Saturday and Sunday (though you are free to stay later into the evening if you wish). 

Is there parking available?
There is plenty of free parking available on Paris Street directly across from Bell Park. 

Can I leave my items there overnight?
Yes! There is plenty of security overnight. My experience in the past 6 years of participation has been pleasant. There were no items missing or damaged having been left overnight.  


How do I know if I my items would be suitable for the event?
The best way to figure out if your work would be a good fit is to check out our previous show and vendors. Have a peek on our Facebook page and Instagram feed to get a feel for the type of vendors that normally participate; and the quality of images that we are looking for. 

We are looking to create a fun, beautiful and engaging marketplace that highlights the work of talented Northern Ontario based makers. You must display and sell only the type of work or items approved by the jury on your application. Please keep in mind that this market will be taking place outdoors. 

The jury will select makers for the market that are:

  • of the highest quality
  • fairly priced
  • handmade 
  • creative and unique

We will give preference to makers from Northern Ontario; however we welcome applications from anywhere within the province. 


How much does it cost to be a vendor?
There are four options for prices & spaces: 

OPTION 1 - $135 +HST

  • 2'x6' table plus 2 chairs
  • Your spot will be under a large (and very festive!) tent, no need to bring your own. Yay!
  • Take part in the market on both Saturday & Sunday

OPTION 2 - $75 +HST

  • 2'x6' table plus 2 chairs
  • Your spot will be under a large tent, no need to bring your own 
  • Take part on one day - Saturday OR Sunday*
    We will do our best to place you on your preferred day, but spaces are not guaranteed. 

The makers north pavilion applications are closed but you
may still contact nlfb regarding option 3 &4.

OPTION 3: $150 +HST

  • Bring your own tent
  • Total space approximately 10'x10'
  • Take part in the entire weekend

OPTION 4: $225 +HST

  • Bring your own tent
  • Total space approximately 10'x20'
  • Take part in the entire weekend


Do I bring my own tablecloth?
You are responsible for bringing your own tables linens. 

Is electricity available?
Electrical outlets will not be available at this event. 

What time do I set up?
Makers are asked to set up before 3 PM on Friday or before 10:30 am on the Saturday & Sunday.

Is table sharing permitted?
No, we like things to look fresh and organized, one maker per table.


Prizes & Festival Excitement
We will be giving away several prizes and running fun contests leading up to and during the festival weekend. If you would like to donate something to make it amazing, that would certainly make us smile. We'll be sure to say thanks by throwing a little extra love your way on social media. 


How are you advertising the event?
We plan to advertise the heck out of this show because we want as many people as possible to come and see your fabulous work! We promote our markets via listings, press releases, blog, social media, website, print material, and more. 

By applying you give us the right to use your photos (with your name/shop name) to promote your work and the show on social media/online and using real old fashioned paper around town. 

Will you share materials with me to advertise the event?
Of course! We'll provide you with promotional material to use on social media etc. We'll also have postcards and posters printed, be sure to let us know if you'd like some of those to share. 


When is the deadline to apply for the market?
Applications will close on May 18th, 2018. Applicants will be notified of the jury results by May 21st.

How do you decide who gets accepted into the market? What is the jury process?
Makers North strives to create a market that highlights a variety of outstanding makers and their wares. We look at the type of craft, workmanship, creativity, originality, price and product fit. Please do not be discouraged or offended if you do not get accepted. Often it is a case of too many makers in the same category. We cannot stress the importance of submitting high quality photos. 

What is the deadline for submitting payment for my spot?
Payment will be made by cheque or Credit card and will be processed by NLFB,  payment will need to be received by June 1st, 2018. We'll give you further details with in your acceptance email. Vendors who do not make their payment by this date will automatically lose their spot. You will receive email confirmation once payment has been received, a paper receipt will be provided to you at the show. 

What is your cancellation policy?
In the event of cancellation, we cannot guarantee a refund. If you are unable to make it to the show, please let us know - if it is possible to fill your spot, we'll refund your payment. 

*Vendors are required to provide their own insurance. Otherwise, agreeing to this application means that vendors are liable for any damage or injury incurred during the festival market.
